September 2020 Calls For Service

This September despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteers of Mahwah Fire Company 1 responded to 20 calls for service. 1 Electrical Issue 1 Vehicle Extrication 13 Fire Alarms 1 Gas Leak 1 Mutual Aid Request for a Fire 2 Mutual Aid Requests for the Airboat 1 Vehicle Fire As always the 100% volunteer members of Mahwah Fire are ready t respond 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

August 2020 Calls For Service

This August despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteers of Mahwah Fire Company 1 responded to 34 calls for service. Brush Fire – 1 Burning Utility Wires – 2 Carbon Monoxide Alarm – 2 Dive Team – 3 Down Utility Wires – 5 EMS Assist – 1 Electrical Issue – 1 Fire Alarm – 11 Fluid Spill – 1 Gas Leak – 4 Mutual Aid Request for the Airboat – 1 Smell of Smoke – 2 As always the 100% volunteer members of Mahwah Fire are ready t respond 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

An Unfortunately Busy Weekend For The Dive Team

This past weekend Co 1’s dive team responded to two calls for service. The first was on Friday evening when the Bergen County SCUBA Taskforce was activated to search the Passaic River for a recent drowning victim. After interviewing witnesses, and employing a sonar system specifically designed for the task, Taskforce divers located and recovered the victim. The second call occurred on Sunday evening when the Co 1 dive team responded to Boonton along with Parsippany Rescue & Recovery to assist in the search for a missing person who was last seen In the area of the reservoir. Multiple boat teams and divers were deployed to systematically search the most likely places the person may be. After locating the victim, the scene was turned over to law enforcement investigators. Throwback Thursday: Our First Heavy Rescue Truck

Did you know that the former Rescue 1 GMC started with humble roots in 1964 when it was originally purchased by the Union City Fire Department. Later Mahwah Fire purchased the truck as the townships first ‘heavy rescue’ rig. It was then obtained from a fire equipment supplier by NBC’s production company for the 1989/90 ‘True Blue’ TV series. The production company transformed it to the tune of $75,000 to its unique look for the TV series. It also appeared in ‘Ransom’ and later in ‘The Siege’ and ‘Daylight’ (don’t blink) in 1998.

Throwback Thursday: New York New Jersey Volunteer Firemen’s Association

On June 27th, 1919 the Mahwah Fire Department was admitted to the New York-New Jersey Volunteer Firemen s Association. That was a direct reflection of the hard work our founders put in. In less than five years from its creation, the Mahwah Fire Department was recognized as a peer to the older more established departments in New Jersey and New York.
